I was in Lyon, France, all day today and did not paint, but I'm posting this small painting that I had finished yesterday. I hope you like it! By the way Lyon is a beautiful city with lots of things for artists to do, including many famous art museums. The highlight of my trip was visiting the Exposition Keith Haring at the Muse'e d'Art Conteporain de Lyon. Exhibit is opened until 13th of July.

These are the same mango "models" from yesterday painting. I wanted to paint a different version but they came out quite similar, in the end. Oh well, I still like them. I also like the reflection of the fruits on the inside and rim of the navy blue bowl - a Japanese Tobe pottery.

This is, yet, another one of my peach series. Tomorrow, hopefully, there will be juicy mangoes that I got at the market, yesterday. I loved painting peaches, so, I'm sure I shall be coming back to this subject.

I had this painting done by Friday but did not get a chance to post it until today - there was so much going on with daughter's school and after school activities. Beautiful sunny day Saturday: perfect for a kermesse, seeing old friends, sharing stories and eating cool fresh strawberries! Sunday has been very relaxing for me - I hope you are enjoying it too!

Peaches in Afternoon Sun

These peaches looked so warm and fuzzy in the afternoon sun on my kitchen counter, they inspired me so. The plate was handbuilt and fired by yours truly, several years ago when I took pottery in Tokyo. The color of the plate is not as bright as it is in the painting, but the peaches made it look really saturated in color.

Today, I joined a group of ladies to visit the private garden and home of a remarkable lady who lives on the lake, near my house. She has the most beautiful home (and garden) I have ever visited and the most joyful and generous spirit. We also joked that she must have a direct telephone line with God himself because after a couple of weeks of rain, today we had the most perfect weather. It was a perfectly sunny weather for being outdoors, to see old friends, to meet new ones, to drink champagne and to just enjoy the good things in life.

I started a series of peach paintings and here's the first one. I wonder how many I can make. I have been working on some flowers, as well, but they are more time consuming and I need longer than a day to finish. On the other hand, fruits and vegies are so much easier, if not faster, to paint!

Another one of my irises. I like this one a lot! I saw this lonely yellow iris along the road when I was driving my daughter back from her dance class. I had to go back there, the same afternoon, to make a reference photo. I was afraid that the rain would damage it. I think it was worth the effort, what do you think?

We were invited to a "cave ouverte" at Chateau des Bois, a magnificent 400 year old estate, near Geneva. The wine they produce at the chateau is fantastic - we came back home with an assorted selection of wine to be savored in the months to come. Yumm! The irises were in bloom and they made the estate even more magnificent.

With eggplants there is no middle ground, you either love them or hate them. I know that I'm in the first group for both eating and painting them. I like walking around my neighborhood to get some exercise and I have always admired this beautiful garden near my house - it is always blooming with seasonal flowers. The other day, I saw the gardener tending her irises and I stopped to talk to her. She was a lovely suisse lady and so kind to allow me to take some reference photos for my watercolors. I promised her I would be back to show her my work. I hope she likes my interpretation of her beloved white irises.
