Gerbera in Kiyomizu Sake Cup I

Gerbera in Kiyomizu Sake Cup I
6" x6" Watercolor on Arches paper
This Japanese sake cup seems to be very dear to my husband who suggested me to paint it. The cup is very small and it is used for drinking hot sake, a Japanese drink. I shall do a few more and post them here in the next few days. Have a great day!

Three Cherries

Three cherries 6"x6"
Watercolor on Arches paper

More cherries today. And, tomorrow I shall post a bowl of cherries that i've been working on. These were expensive, imported cherries that I found at the market. Wait until our cherry tree in the backyard starts producing - then we'll see serious cherries! I love painting them! I hope you like them!

two cherries

Two Cherries 6"x6"
Watercolor on paper

These cherries are from Italy, the first ones that I found at the market. I was expecting them to be sour, but they were actually very sweet. I think these two have a lot of character, holding hands like young ones in love. I hope you like them.

white peony in commugny

White Peony in Commugny 6"x6"
Watercolor on Arches paper

There is a peony bush just around the corner from my house in my neighborhood that blooms very early in the spring. This spring, maybe because of the perfect weather conditions, they looked especially spectacular! Here's a sample of the dozens of white flowers that bloomed this year. Enjoy!

gerbera and blue vase

gerbera and blue vase 6"x6"
watercolor on paper

This is one of my belated mother's day flowers. In fact, the gerberas are not this color- they are a beautiful fuschia. I changed into this yellow, orange hue to go with my blue vase, thinking they made a better composition. I'm working on another painting, this time with the gerbera in their original color. Have a great day!

artichoke

artichoke 6"x6"
watercolor on paper

It was fun looking for the perfect artichoke at the market for painting purposes. It turned out that they only had green artichokes, so I took the liberty to add the purple color on it. I hope you like it. By the way, artichokes are delicious and good for you! Have a great day!

white magnolia II

white magnolia II 6"x8"
watercolor on paper

Magnolias are on of my favorite flowers to paint. I like the contrast of white petals and black background (a mixture of pthalo blue, alizarin crimson and pthallo green) in this painting. It gives the bloom a serene and luminous effect. Have a great day!

dogwood blossoms

dogwood blossoms 6"x6"
Watercolor on paper

Dogwood grows in the wild in Virginia. I loved to watch them slowly pop up, in the spring, into full blooms. Here in Switzerland, they do not seem to grow prolific or in the wild, but I managed to find this one in a very posh nursery near our home. I hope you like it.

Thank you so much to all who took their time to come to the opening party of our art show at the UN last night. The food, entertainment and company were wonderful. If you didn't have a chance to come last night, the show will go on for another 2 weeks, so, I hope you can come to see our latest works. Have a great day! Theresa Miller

cherry tomatoes and water glass

Cherry to matoes and water glass 6"x6"
Watercolor on paper

To me, these cherry tomatoes are like little children at play. I had never painted them before starting my Daily Painting blog, and I'm so glad that I did. The simplest objects, one never pays too much attention to, come alive before you bursting with life, full of personality.

Today is the opening day of our exhibition at the UN-Geneva. I was there yesterday morning hanging the paintings and the place looks impressive: large windows that overlook the Botanical Gardens, Lake Geneva and the Alps. It's a beautiful sight. I hope to see you there this evening! Theresa Miller

mushrooms and scalions

Mushrooms and scalions 6"x6"
Watercolor on Arches paper

I've been so busy getting ready for the art exhibit at the UN - Geneva, which opens tomorrow, so here is a painting that I did last week. I hope you can come to the vernissage/opening reception tomorrow evening. Let me know, so I can list your name on the guest list, they won't let you in otherwise. Strict security at the UN, nowadays. Sorry. Have a great day! Theresa Miller

Pepper and Cherry Tomatoes

Red Pepper and Cherry Tomatoes
6"x6" Watercolor on Arches paper

I used to paint large paintings of flowers most of the time. I didn't realize how much fun it is to paint small paintings of things from my kitchen. It's new for me and I'm enjoying it - and I think that's the whole point. I thought that the shadows were interesting to paint, in this piece. Have a great day! Theresa Miller

Cherry Tomato Tango

Cherry Tomato Tango 6" x6"

Watercolor on Arches Paper

I've been painting so many items from the market, recently, that I might as well move my whole painting studio there! Just kidding. Next week I will probably go back to my flowers... I already started to get restless without them. Have a great day! Theresa Miller
